100% growth in 2023 for the 3rd consecutive year – Capt’n Boat makes the review

Now that 2024 is here, it’s time to make the Capt’n Boat 2023 review for this third year of activity.

2023 has enabled us to consolidate our position in the european crew placement market and to achieve a year of growth driven by numerous developments and your support.

Here’s the Capt’n Boat review!

1. Capt'n Boat's 2023 review: Continuous growth

A. Capt'n Boat in figures

2023 has been a significant year for Capt’n Boat, as its turnover has doubled compared to the previous year.

This result reflects our customers’ growing confidence in our services, our ability to meet their needs, and the general trend towards crewed yacht charter.

The number of sailors registered on the platform has also doubled to 4,600, representing 47 different nationalities. The majority are skippers. However, in line with 2022, the number of hostesses / cooks has more than doubled, closely followed by deckhands / mates.

This diversity has enabled us to respond to the majority of requests for sailors, earning us a customer satisfaction rating of 4.8 out of 5 (Google reviews). Our sailors, for their part, received an average score of 4.75 out of 5 on the following criteria: professionalism, discretion, communication, etc.

«Very satisfied with the service we received. We had a wonderful stay and will have unforgettable memories. We felt very safe with a very qualified captain and hostess. Thank you Capt’n Boat!»

B. New partnerships

During the year, we also worked with a number of new yacht charter companies/agencies to meet their customers’ crew requirements. In the Caribbean: Punch Croisières, A&C Yacht Charter, ACM Caraïbes, Alternive Sailings; in the Mediterranean basin with Midi nautisme, Sailing Sicily… But also with shipyards: Neel Trimarans and Grand Large Service.

But that’s not all! To enrich our maritime ecosystem, we have formed partnerships with The Yachter, a skipper training organisation, and O Loup de Mer, an e-commerce site for boat and professional equipment.

Finally, because the safety of our users at sea is also a priority, we have joined the MICA Center (Maritime Information Cooperation & Awareness Center for the analysis and evaluation of global maritime security) as part of a Naval Cooperation initiative. The aim is to warn our sailors of high-risk areas and encourage them to notify us of any suspicious activities they observe.

2. Focus on Capt'n Boat requests in 2023

A. Capt'n Boat request types

The appeal of crewed yacht charter is still growing:

40% of GlobeSailor’s French clients used the services of a skipper for their summer 2023 cruise. (Source: Summer 2023 Yacht Charter Report, GlobeSailor).

The same observation applies to Dream Yacht Charter: «Cabin cruises with crew have recorded a 27% increase in sales compared to 2022» according to Dream Yacht Charter figures for 2023.

This is very good news for Capt’n Boat, as in 2023 charter (cruising) requests were still the most numerous (68%), followed by convoying (15%), escorting (13%) and coaching (4%). To meet these needs, skipper and hostess profiles were the most sought-after.

Logically, demand peaked between April and August in the run-up to the summer season, and in November for the Caribbean season.

We have also received requests for more exotic destinations such as Jamaica, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Seychelles and Iceland.

C. Types of boat

In terms of the boats on which we placed sailors, sailing boats accounted for 85% of requests (56% multihulls and 44% monohulls). Engines accounted for 15%. The most popular boat models include the Lagoons 380 to 570, the Bali 4.0 to 5.4 and the Oceanis 40 to 55.

3. Features to better meet the needs of sailors and yachtsmen

The year 2023 was marked by a series of developments on the Capt’n Boat platform, to adapt to the characteristics of the sailor’s profession and to the user experience of yachtsmen.

Among them, the launch of a mobile application dedicated to sailors, which responds to the ‘nomadic’ aspect of this profession and makes it more accessible. The application is available on AppStore and Google Play.

On the customer side (boat owners, charterers, lessors and builders), we have made it possible to pay in 2 times, free of charge, and to offer monthly payments for long-term assignments, as well as ‘favourites’ status. The latter enables our users to indicate the sailors they are used to working with, so that they can easily find them and hire them again for their next requests.

We have also extended our services to rivers to meet the demand from sailors on French inland waters.

Conclusion

This Capt’n Boat 2023 review is very positive, and it’s all been made possible thanks to you, so THANK YOU.
